Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
